Hi Friends,
Happy New Month! Welcome to November! This month, I am sharing my testimony on unforgiveness.
When I think of unforgiveness, I recall that I have been forgiven and I have forgiven others as well. But of course, the greatest forgiveness one can ever receive is from God. No matter what I did, once I came to know Christ, He humbly forgave me and set me free. Unforgiveness is a sin, it is not healthy and it can result in many health problems. I received forgiveness many many times but I would like to share one particular time.
I remember when I decided to renew my life and give it back to God many years ago, there were so many things that were weighing me down. I had soooo many burdens and one of those things was unforgiveness. Very soon after I rededicated my life, I was encouraged to contact some individuals whom I hurt and who hurt me in order to seek forgiveness.
I was very scared, I am not going to lie to you. I was scared because it was the first time in my life that I had to do something like that. And so, I prayed and asked God to take away every fear, help me to say the right thing and basically to guide me through the process. I prepared a list of all the individuals that I needed to contact along with their contact information and I began to make the phone calls. Before I did so, I prayed and asked God to help me and He did.
When I spoke with the various individuals, they were happy to hear my voice. I mean, I did not speak with some of them in years. In my mind I thought “maybe they hate me”, “maybe they won’t speak with me”, “maybe they might hang up the phone” and all sorts of other crazy thoughts ran through my mind. In spite of all the drama that occurred in the past, they forgave me and I forgave them. I recall especially one of the individuals (she is a Christian), it so happened that she forgave me years ago without me even reaching out.
Once I was finished with all the phone calls, I felt differently. I felt lighter and I knew that a HUGE burden was lifted. It felt good to be forgiven by fellow human beings but it feels even better to know that God forgives us and He just keeps on forgiving us. Friends, I encourage you to get rid of all unforgiveness in your life. It is not easy but it is possible. In our world today, a lot of relationships are not working out, some of our family members cannot get along and we are plagued with sickness and it is because of unforgiveness in a lot of the cases.
You can make a decision now to choose to forgive instead of hating. Choose to forgive instead of holding on to the hurt and pain. Choose to forgive. Choose to forgive and do it quickly. I had the opportunity to hear I am sorry. I had the chance to say I am sorry. Do not wait for the other person to say I am sorry because you may never hear it. Do not wait for people to come to you. Take the first step and go to them and make things right. If you cannot see them face to face (because they might be living in another location/country), call them and make the effort to get in contact with them. Remember, choose to forgive.
